Nigel Farage Criticized for Suggesting West Provoked Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

Former UKIP Leader Faces Outrage from Political Opponents

Farage's Comments Draw Condemnation

Nigel Farage, the former leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), has sparked outrage from political opponents after suggesting that the West provoked Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Farage made the comments during an interview on a YouTube channel, saying that NATO's eastward expansion had created a "threat" to Russia.

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said Farage's comments were "simply not true" and that Russia was "entirely responsible for its unprovoked and illegal invasion of Ukraine." Labour's shadow foreign secretary, David Lammy, called Farage's remarks "shameful" and said he was "playing into Putin's hands."

Farage has since defended his comments, saying that he believes "the vast majority of the British public understand that we have to be very careful about the way we handle Russia." He has also said that he is "not a supporter of Vladimir Putin" and that he believes Russia's invasion of Ukraine is "illegal and unjustified."
